Although Death and the River is his first collection, Houchin has had poems published in many journals, including the Cincinnati Poetry Review, Kansas Quarterly, Poetry Ireland Review, and Southern Poetry Review. He is a regular reader at the Hemingway Days Festival in Key West and the James Wright Poetry Festival in Martins Ferry, Ohio. A secondary school teacher, he has lived in southern Ohio for the past 26 years.
