The conception and study of literature often refer to a closed and stable system, but we no longer find ourselves in this scenario. Today, the traditional study of literature fails to explain how and why it remains a significant social and cultural activity. Literature, Language, and Place, applying the principles of thermodynamics, asks what happens today at the confluence of these three elements in a fast-paced and changing world.
